Port Erin Commissioners is pleased to announce that there will be no increase in the rate for the forthcoming financial year 2015-16, with the rate remaining at 288p.
At
their meeting on 27th January, Chairman Mr Ged Power announced,
"The Board has considered the forthcoming year's budget in great detail
and were very pleased that a number of operational changes that have
been made during the past 24 months have not only allowed us to retain the
rates at their current level of 288p but also to accept the
transferred services from the Department of Infrastructure.
The
continued modernisation programme at Port Erin Commissioners has increased our
operational efficiencies whilst also offering benefits such as a Customer
Relationship Management system which accurately and efficiently records
notifications from residents highlighting any issues. This has allowed the
Board to take on the transfer of functions from the Department of Infrastructure
with full confidence. You will also note from our website that full details,
plans and the status of all planning applications within Port Erin are
published which provides our residents with much more detail than previously
available. The office is also able to accept card payments which is a very
useful option, especially for those choosing to pay their rates at the office.
I would like to thank our Clerk, Mr Jason Roberts for his vision and
transformational actions.
During
the current Board’s time in office we have been working closely on how we serve
the needs of the Village with limited resources. I’m confident that we can
continue to make significant improvements in this direction, however, we can
only go so far. For the public to experience further savings in the South of
the Island, it is imperative that Local Authorities better communicate and work
together in order to further reduce costs. I’m hoping that greater cooperation
will benefit many people in Port Erin and the neighbouring areas.”
Mr
Power concluded by adding, "The budget for this forthcoming year also
allows us to continue with projects such as the proposed replacement
bridge at Spaldrick, which the Board committed to last year, as well as
a number of other schemes which will further enhance the appearance of
Port Erin. I must thank all the staff at Port Erin Commissioners, my fellow Board
members and everybody who has contributed to the success that we have
experienced. Port Erin has a bright future with our modernised approach and
continued positive development in local governance.”
