Southern area housing providers and Government working together to increase housing choice for prospective tenants
The southern area
Local Authorities of Arbory, Castletown, Malew, Port Erin, Rushen and Santon
have been working with the Department of Infrastructure Housing Division to
develop a combined housing waiting list for the south of the island.
Using cloud-based
technology provided by Government Technology Services, the combined list will
replace the individual housing waiting lists previously administered by each of
the aforementioned Local Authorities.
Prospective
tenants will apply to one combined waiting list, covering a much wider area,
therefore offering more choice of location than ever before and access to over
1,000 properties. Those most in housing need may choose to apply for housing
from anywhere managed by the participating housing providers, whilst those with
more specific geographical requirements may choose to apply for a specific
area.
The group, who
formed as the Southern Area Housing Group in November last year, has also
developed a standardised application and allocation procedure which ensures
that properties are allocated more quickly and consistently.
The scheme is due
to go live in September.
