Port Erin Commissioners will be commencing with a project to
add festoon lighting through Athol Park on 7 May. The project, to improve the
lighting through Athol Park, will see the installation of seven lighting
columns and festoon lighting, which was originally removed from along Station
Road during the regeneration project.
There will be some minor disruption to access during the working day whilst
works are undertaken, but this will be kept to a minimum and access to the park
during the evenings will not be affected.
The works will be undertaken by Manx Utilities which will also see an upgrade
to the public lighting circuit within the park, ahead of planned works to the play
area in the coming months.
Chairman of Port Erin Commissioners, Mr Nick Watterson
commented, “The Board has been exploring options for Athol Park for some time
and we are pleased that one project is now
getting underway. The costs have been kept to a
minimum by reusing the street lighting columns and lighting from Station Road.
These were earmarked at the time for use within Athol Park which the Board felt
would make a nice addition. We have also recently consulted on improving the
Park which should lead to further investments in the near future.”
The project is expected to be
completed within 3 weeks.
