Port Erin Commissioners has announced that, subject to
planning consent, it has agreed the purchase of land upon which it is seeking
to establish a glamping and campsite facility within Port Erin.
The creation of the site would see a glamping site area, campsite
area, motorhome area, toilet & shower facilities along with a welcome
centre.
Chairman of Port Erin Commissioners, Mr Nick Watterson
commented, “The Board has identified a site on the outskirts of Port Erin which
it feels offers a great location to create a recreational and tourist
destination site. A smaller scale site was planned a couple of years ago, but
this did not proceed. This site has many significant benefits including the
ability to offer an area for a variety of traditional camping options as
well as a 5-star rated glamping option.”
Mr Watterson added, “The site offers those staying there the
benefits of a country side location yet only a short walk to the various
offerings within Port Erin. The creation of such a site would not only benefit
Port Erin but the wider area of the South of the Island.”
An Open Day is arranged for 6
December 2018 between 2pm until 8pm at Port Erin Commissioners’ Office where
members of the public are invited to come along and view the outline plans for
the site and submit any comments or suggestions, they may have prior to the
Board submitting a formal planning application.
