Housing Waiting List – New Criteria, June 2019
The Department of Infrastructure Housing Division is writing to all Housing Waiting List applicants, to advise that there has been a review of the process by which Public Sector Housing is allocated.
As a result of this review, the Public Sector Housing (General Needs) Allocation Policy 2019, has been approved by Tynwald and will come into effect on 1st June 2019.
In preparation for these changes the Housing Division is writing to advise you that there will be changes to the way your Housing Application is assessed. The significant changes are detailed as follows;
1 Changes to income criteria as detailed below
Maximum gross annual income
Number of dependent children Single applicant Joint Applicant
None £30,000 £33,000
1 child £35,000 £38,000
2 Children £38,000 £41,000
3 Children £41,000 £44,000
2 Changes to Financial/Property Assets
The maximum assets for single or joint applicants will reduce from £50,000 to £30,000.
3 Changes to points for time on the waiting list
The points for time on the list are now capped at 20 points. Therefore, if you have been on the list for more than 5 years, your points will be reduced accordingly.
4 Family Size (up to three children*)
- 5 points for each dependent child under 16 years *
- 3 points for each dependent child between 16 and 21 years *
- 1 point for each additional child above three children
5 Other changes
- 5 Points for being born on the island are no longer applicable.
- 5 Points for joint applicants are no longer applicable.
There are some other minor changes to the housing pointing criteria which may alter applicants current points. However, in order to avoid any applicants having an unfair advantage over others when properties are being allocated, all applications will automatically be reassessed in line with the new criteria and the points adjusted on 1st June 2019.
Unfortunately, in some cases, the new income and assets limits, may mean that some applicants are no longer eligible for Public Sector Housing. If you are concerned that you will no longer be eligible for Public Sector Housing, please contact the office on 832298 to request a review of your housing application.
If your review indicates that your application must be removed from the list, we will contact you and offer any relevant advice to assist you with alternative housing options.
Full details of the changes to the housing pointing system will be available on the government website at www.gov.im from 1st June 2019.
In the meantime, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 832298.
