Port Erin 2012
Port Erin was selected to be the second town in the Isle of Man to be preserved for the future in an archive photography project. |
Around 90 shops, businesses and organisations around the town were photographed and interviewed, and the results (over 300 photographs) will be preserved on this site and in the Manx Museum. |
Photography took place on three sunny spring days on 26-28 March 2012. Thank you to all the businesses for giving up your time to be photographed and to answer the questions. |
The project was led by Chris Littler Webdesign and archivephotography.co.uk, and funding was kindly provided by the Manx Heritage Foundation and Port Erin Commissioners |
Inspiration for these projects came from both old and new. The old being a handful of photographs of shopkeepers stood proudly outside their premises in days gone by. The new being a number of web-based projects to provide a photographic account of shop fronts in particular areas, notably London Shop Fronts.
Port Erin Picture Page This community social media page has a massive collection of photos from the past, right up to the current day.
Port Erin resident Peter Fisher has amassed a huge collection of pictures and postcards from Port Erin. |
