Port Erin Commissioners has announced that its local authority rate for the forthcoming financial year will be set at 361p, an increase of 9% from the current rate of 331p. This increase equates to 67p per week for a typical 3-bedroom property within Port Erin. Port Erin Commissioners’ Chair Mr Godfrey Egee announced, “The current financial year has seen significant inflationary increases which has impacted us all. The Board has been mindful of the rises to the cost of living so has focussed on providing a budget which is realistic yet allows the continued provision of an excellent value service for its ratepayers.
As the Board states each year, certain costs are outside of its control, such as pay awards, Energy from Waste gate fees and borrowing costs, but where possible and practical, all costs have been reviewed and adjusted.
With December 2022 CPI inflation standing at 7.4%, the continued pressures on the cost of operation have been carefully considered by the Board which has agreed to release funding from its rate reserves to mitigate some of these pressures. This will also allow for improved provision of amenities for the younger residents of Port Erin as well as general improvements in other areas including Athol Park.
Continued provision has been made within the budget regarding the well reported ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Southern Swimming Pool.
It is fantastic news that our staff will be moving into the new Commissioners Depot at Breagle Glen in the coming weeks and it will be exciting to see the new Reayrt Vradda glamping site opening this Spring.
Port Erin Commissioners’ close working ties with Malew Parish Commissioners continues to benefit both authorities. The introduction of a recycling collection service has been under detailed discussion and a public consultation is planned to be undertaken with residents in the coming months."
Mr Egee concluded by adding, "The Board is immensely proud that Port Erin continues to be such a highly regarded place to live, work and visit.” Information Typical 3 bed property with rateable value of £116
