Port Erin Commissioners has today launched its new swimming pontoon. The rafts which have been a popular feature within Port Erin Bay were at the end of their life so the Board reviewed several options and opted for a replacement pontoon which will have a significantly longer life than the rafts. Being slightly larger than the rafts it replaces, the pontoon includes ladders to assist users climbing out of the water, plenty of space for people to enjoy being on the water and cleats to allow paddleboarders, kayakers, aquabikers and small sailing dingy to attach for a break. The buoys for the old rafts will remain in position as open water swimmers have used those positions as markers. Port Erin Commissioners Chair, Mr Godfrey Egee said, “This is another fantastic addition to Port Erin’s fabulous beach. There has been a marked increase in visitors to the beach over the past several years and the replacement pontoon will allow visitors to make the best of the excellent bathing water quality in Port Erin bay.”
