Port
Erin Commissioners Provide Beach Sports Equipment
Port Erin Commissioners has
announced that it has purchased beach football goals and a volleyball net which
will be placed on the beach for the summer season for May through to September.
The regulation size beach
football and volleyball equipment will be placed on the beach in a
semi-permanent manner, so will be anchored in the correct position to play
formal games.
Chairman of Port Erin
Commissioners, Mr Nick Watterson commented, “The Board wished to encourage
further use of what it feels is the best beach on the Island and the provision
of sports equipment is a great way to do this. It is envisaged that the
equipment will be used by both casual and formal users. As such, the Board has also
purchased the regulation tape lines to mark out the pitch and court for any
competitions. Any clubs or organisations wishing to stage any formal
competitions throughout the summer should contact the office to discuss their
requirements.”
The
beach football will be situated on the beach close to the Bay Hotel and the
volleyball to the right of the slipway at the bottom of Strand Road.
