The Board of Port Erin Commissioners is pleased with the approval of the planning application for the former Marine Biological Station site in Port Erin following yesterday’s planning committee meeting. The Board has been supportive of the proposal for the site and has engaged with the developer Delgatie Limited throughout the planning process to ensure that the local authorities concerns and wishes were considered. Chair of Port Erin Commissioners, Mr Godfrey Egee commented, “The Board has met and discussed various aspects of the proposal with Delagtie Limited over the past 4 years, from the projects early concept through to more detailed matters later on in the process. The engagement has been positive throughout, with any concerns of the Board acknowledged and alleviated along the way. The retention of the grassed area to the front of the development for public use was a key element for the Board which was agreed early on in the detailed design phase and the Board welcomed the car parking for the development being moved behind the buildings, which had been a concern of the Board with previous schemes.” Mr Egee added, “Island residents and visitors will be acutely aware that the site has laid in a dilapidated state for a number of years, but with Delgatie Limited planning on commencing work on the site in Autumn 2022, this development will be fantastic, not just for Port Erin, but the whole Island. The development will be yet another positive step for Port Erin, building upon the various projects over recent years making Port Erin a fantastic place to live, work and visit.” Added 29 March 2022.
